FangMr. Fang, a senior associate at Ruiz & Sperow, brings to the firm more than 14 years of experience in employment litigation, with a special focus on public entity representation. In that regard, he has handled wrongful termination claims, claims for defamation, unfair business practice claims, wage and hour claims, and claims under the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). He also has more than 20 years of experience in general litigation matters. He has appeared regularly in state and federal courts, as well as before mediators, arbitrators and settlement judges in alternative dispute resolution matters. In addition to this primary work representing public entities, he has also worked on commercial litigation matters involving contract, tort, antitrust and unfair competition claims.
He successfully defended the Oakland Unified School District in an action involving multiple tort claims, that led to a published appellate opinion on school district immunity, Cerna v. City of Oakland, et al. (2008) Cal.App.4th 1340, 75 Cal.Rptr.3d 168. Prior to joining Ruiz & Sperow, LLP, he worked for 12 years as a senior associate at San Francisco-based employment and public entity firm, Lafayette & Kumagai, LLP.
Mr. Fang earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1984. He was awarded his undergraduate degree, with honors, from Washington University at St. Louis, with a major in political science. He has also been a contributing author to several volumes of West Publishing Company’s California Code Forms. |
