Mr. Martin has over 14 years of experience advising and representing employers in employment matters.  He has litigated in federal and state courts as well as administrative proceedings, defending employers in connection with numerous types of claims such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, defamation, disability, family and medical leave, wage and hour, fraud, and breach of contract.  He also counsels clients regarding day-to-day employment-related issues.  He has given presentations to various employer and human resources groups regarding topics of interest to employers such as workplace privacy and hiring issues and recent developments in discrimination law.  He has also given sexual-harassment training mandated by California law.  

Mr. Martin has obtained many outstanding outcomes for clients over the years, including multiple summary judgments and favorable settlements.  In addition, he has appeared several times before state and federal appellate courts, with successful results.  Prior to joining Ruiz & Sperow, he worked for nearly 10 years at a major national law firm practicing labor and employment law.  Before that, he was in-house counsel for a multi-faceted company based in southern California, where he handled employment, real estate, corporate, transactional, litigation and general commercial matters.

Mr. Martin earned his J.D. in 1994 from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was Research Editor with the Hofstra Law Review.  He received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College, with a double major in Music and Psychology.  In addition to membership in the State Bar of California, he is also a member of the New York and New Jersey bars.
